Taste of Wilderness: Finnish championship in wilderness cooking

COME AND WITNESS THE COMPETITION BETWEEN THE TOP WILDERNESS CHEFS IN FINLAND! Retkipaikka invites wilderness chefs from all corners of Finland to compete in Nuuksio National Park, near the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia this spring. The Taste of Wilderness competition, held on the 6th of May, is the first Finnish championship in wilderness cooking. The purpose of the competition is to inspire people to challenge their perception of outdoor cuisine and promote Finnish and global wilderness food culture.

That’s why at Retkipaikka, we prioritize the quality and taste of our food on our own trips.
This type of competition has not existed before, so it’s time to fill that void now.
Through this competition, we also aim to promote Finnish and global outdoor food culture and inspire people to compete and challenge themselves and their ideas about eating outdoors. Food tastes the best outdoors, so good food tastes even better. The competition will be held in four different categories.
In the Camping Stove category, the team consists of 1–2 people. Preparation time is 30 minutes, cooking time is 1 hour. In this category, competitors prepare 3 dishes using their own ingredients, and the team is allowed to use two camping stoves. The team can bring a maximum of 2 daypacks or one trekking backpack to the competition.
In the Freestyle category, the team consists of 2–5 people. Preparation time is 1 hour, cooking time is 1 hour. In this category, the number of dishes is not specified, and the team is allowed to use their chosen equipment for cooking. The team can bring a maximum of one trekking backpack per team member to the competition.
In the Guest category, finnish outdoor influencers and their possible assistants who are invited to the competition will prepare three dishes. The equipment can be freely chosen. No own ingredients are allowed to be brought except for spices, but the influencers can make requests for the ingredients. The team can bring one backpack to the competition.
