Nuuksio National Park outdoor exhibition at The Finnish Nature Centre Haltia
Outdoor exhibition area at Haltia
Nuuksio offers an exceptionally expansive habitat by Southern Finland’s standards, not to mention nearly the only one possible for many species. The entire Nuuksio Lake Uplands form an important, unbroken forest area, the likes of which are seldom found in Southern Finland.
Nuuksio National Park was founded 1994 to protect wilderness nature in the Uusimaa region. In order to safeguard nesting peace and prevent wear and tear on the terrain, there are areas within the national park with no trails or services. The management of cultural landscapes and maintenance of the fire continuum by means of prescribed burns, which simulate the effects of natural forest fires, have an impact on park species. Typical, if demanding, species found in Nuuksio include the red-throated loon, western capercaillie, Siberian flying squirrel and several old-growth forest moss and insect species.
Parks Wildlife Finland (Metsähallitus luontopalvelut) is responsible for management of Nuuksio National Park.
The exhibition presenting the Nuuksio National Parks nature and histori was opened during Haltia’s Outdoor Saturday 7.9.2024, when we celebrated the 30 year old Nuuksio National Park. The exhibition is on the event field at Haltia so far.
